Work on the Cherkasy region development strategy for the period of 2021-2027 continues. Currently it is in the phase of statistic data analyses. The key aspect in this process is to determine the economic and innovative potential of the region within the framework of smart-specialization approach.
Just for this purpose a 3-day seminar-workshop was held in Kyiv National Economic University named after V. Hetman, on July 3-5, 2019.
The seminar was organized by Ukrainian Ministry of Economic Development according to the smart-specialization approach JRC for EU Member States and EU Neighbourhood countries with the help of financial, organizational and expert support of Polish aid project for development “Increasing the competitiveness of Ukrainian regions and developing Polish-Ukrainian economic cooperation. The representatives of all Ukrainian regions, including the representative of the Department of regional development of Cherkasy regional state administration, participated in the seminar.
The workshop on economic and innovative potential of the region analyses was conducted under the guidance of experienced European experts: Hugo Hollanders, University of Maastricht (JRC expert, author of data analysis methodology), Belgium, Justina Lasak, Marshall Office of the Lower Silesia Voivodeship, Wroclaw, Poland.
Ukraine implements a smart-specialization approach with the support of DG Directorate of the Joint Research Center (DG JRC). First three pilot regions (Kharkiv, Odesa and Zaporizhzhia regions) have already received analytical reports on the economic and innovative potential of their regions, which are developed by the JRC experts. The other Ukrainian regions will develop their own reports based on the reports of these three regions.
Every region has to develop Mapping of the economic, innovative and scientific potential for smart-specialization with the list of industry branches for every region. The Mapping shows the highest growth and prospects according to static and dynamic indicators based on the algorithm developed by JRC experts for Ukraine.
The next step is analysis and the process the entrepreneurial discovery of smart-specialization.
